Lightweight grit

Lightweight, natural building material

Liapor expanded clay is a long-standing, popular choice for garden and landscaping applications – both in the field of landscape design and as a growth substrate. In the form of a lightweight grit, it also has many applications as a substrate for terraces, paths or other outdoor areas. In this case, the material used is a crushed Liapor expanded clay granulate of grain size 1–5 millimetres which is applied as a bulk material in layers of generally four centimetres or more. The special bonus: The dry bulk density of the Liapor lightweight grit is a mere 0.5 t/m³. As a result, this natural material is significantly lighter than conventional grit, thus making transport and handling easier and ensuring better coverage.

Stable and durable

When they are applied, the crushed expanded clay fragments intermesh and they simply then need to be compacted for them to acquire their stability. Liapor lightweight grit is also resistant to fire, frost, acids and alkalis. As a water-regulating material, it can both absorb and release water again (it retains its shape and neither swells up nor shrinks) and provides natural drainage. When used on the roofs of underground car parks or on walkways or railway tracks, Liapor lightweight grit provides additional thermal insulation (value measured at 0.10 W/(mK).
