Lightweight concrete to equalize levels

Kaiser's high-bay warehouse, Berlin-Mariendorf

High-density Liapor lightweight concrete LC 35 / 1.6 made from CEM III/A 42.5 and coal fly ash, BV, ST, Liapor 6 (4/8 mm), lightweight sand (0/4 mm), natural sand (0/2 mm) and gravel (2/8 mm): Conversion of an existing warehouse into a high-bay warehouse for a food retail chain. Approx. 1,000 m3 of lightweight concrete were used to equalize the levels and reinforce the ceilings by 18 cm throughout the entire warehouse area. A plastic-modified screed was used to protect against wear. The lightweight concrete was pumped horizontally over a maximum distance of 120 m. A conventional reciprocating pump with a daily capacity of 450 to 550 m2 (80 to 100 m3) was used. Compaction was performed using internal agitators. One of the reasons for using lightweight concrete was to reduce the increase in the intrinsic weight of the reinforced ceilings to a minimum. As a result, the floors can bear higher payloads.
