Geofills
Optimum stability
The properties of the subsoil are of crucial importance during the planning and construction of roads, buildings and bridges. Its load-bearing capacity sets the limits to what the construction engineers can achieve and determines the scale of the structures that can subsequently be erected. Substrates such as saturated quaternary deposits, cohesive clay and loamy soils or compactable back-fills offer only a restricted load-bearing capacity and can, at best, withstand only minimum compressive force.
Self-compacting stability
If, despite these limitations, a building project is decided on then the construction-related properties of the subsoil must be artificially improved. In such cases, Liapor expanded clay fills have repeatedly proven to be an excellent solution. Used as geofills, they lend substrates with insufficient load-bearing capacity the necessary stability and guarantee optimum solidity. Depending on requirements and specifications, the expanded clay granules can be applied to the soil as a poured fill or as a soil equivalent. Following application, the Liapor clay granules self-compact to form a thick, even layer, thus ensuring maximum stability of form without the need for any additional compression.
Minimized bearing loads
The improvement in the load-bearing capacity of the subsoil and increased stability of foundations and structures brought about by Liapor geofills are testified to by numerous laboratory and on-site load plate tests conducted by independent organizations as well as by the many projects that have already been completed throughout Europe. The grain of the expanded clay distributes the load and reduces settlement and earth pressure by a factor of 2 to 3 compared to conventional subsoils. This is possible thanks to the dry bulk density of 350 kg/m3 coupled with the relatively high rigidity of the clay grain which results from the uniform, fine structure of the pores within the clay granules. Furthermore, as a natural construction material, Liapor geofills are insensitive to environmental influences such as water, frost and fire.
On-schedule deliveries
Alongside their construction-related properties, Liapor geofills are quick and easy to deliver – often a decisive factor in practice due to the time pressures that characterize modern construction projects. This is because even large quantities of geofills can be transported without difficulty to the building site exactly when they are required and as a function of project progress. The Liapor Group's logistics specialists ensure the unproblematic, on-schedule supply of materials throughout Europe and the Liapor expanded clay granules are transported by truck, train or ship.
