Perimeter insulation
High-performance backfill
Whether in a detached house, office building or factory hall – the foundations are a factor of crucial importance for every building. The area between the structure and the excavated site is of particular significance. This area demands the use of versatile, high-performance perimeter backfills which not only meet a variety of construction-related requirements but can also be applied quickly and easily. In addition, backfills must possess drainage capabilities in order to avoid moisture damage to the building structure. This is particularly true of areas that are exposed to severe temperature fluctuations or frost. In compliance with the applicable energy-saving regulations, perimeter insulations must also provide effective protection against heat loss.
Self-compacting bulk material
Thanks to their unique physical properties, Liapor expanded clay granules are an outstanding solution for the backfilling of building excavations. Thanks to their low dry bulk density of approximately 350 kg/m3, the air-entrained, ceramic clay granules reduce earth pressure by a factor of 2 or 3 compared to conventional subsoils. The fill both retains its form and is self-compacting. There is then no further subsequent compaction and one cubic meter of Liapor therefore permanently fills a space of exactly one cubic meter. The material can also be applied to the tiniest cracks and no additional vibrating or compacting equipment is required.
A range of construction-related benefits
Furthermore, Liapor expanded clay granules offer additional construction-related benefits when used for the backfilling of excavations. Liapor reduces heat loss, while simultaneously storing heat and providing acoustic insulation. This non-flammable material benefits from the highest fire classification (A1) while also being frostproof. Due to its low level of residual moisture, Liapor remains suitable for outdoor use even many degrees below freezing. These capabilities are complemented by the moisture-regulating function of Liapor expanded clay which can absorb and then release humidity as required without this causing any settlement or swelling.
Fast, easy application
There are also economic reasons why Liapor is the solution of choice for perimeter insulations: The granules can be delivered quickly and easily in bulk form by silo tanker and can be shown directly into the excavation from a distance of up to 100 meters. Once in place, they then automatically adjust to the optimum filling density. This means that there is no need for temporary warehousing on the building site or the use of any additional machinery. This not only saves time and space but also ensures that construction activities can move ahead unimpeded and economically and without the need for work-intensive handling operations.
