Cavity filling
Extensive properties
A fill serves several purposes: It raises the floor to the required level. At the same time, it provides thermal and acoustic insulation, thus saving energy and ensuring a more comfortable home environment. The versatile properties of Liapor expanded clay and the many different products supplied agreeably enhance the characteristics of the flooring.
An efficient cavity fill
Liapor fills are permeable, mineral systems which enable the easy, rapid implementation of perfectly conceived construction solutions. Cavities can be entirely loaded with Liapor fills without gaps and without missing the slightest nook or cranny. These fills represent an efficient use of manpower coupled with the ability to calculate material requirements precisely in advance. In contrast, insulating mats are wasteful and complicated to cut to shape. Liapor can supply four different types of fill: spherical granules or mixed with crushed Liapor – both loose and in bonded form.
Loose and dry
The loose, dry Liapor fill is particularly suitable for filling cavities in multilayered or timber beam floors. At the same time, this type of fill guarantees outstanding acoustic and thermal insulation while imposing only a very low static load. These loose fills make it possible to solve many of the problems specific to the building renovation sector, e.g. damp foundations, wet and rotting filling materials and the inadequacy or total lack of thermal insulation.
A lightweight material offering excellent thermal insulation
As a heat-insulating fill for solid and timber beam floors, Liapor provides a high level of thermal insulation coupled with an excellent ability to retain heat. These characteristics are due to the fine-pored lightweight Liapor clay spheres which combine a high compressive strength with outstanding construction-related properties. The thermal insulation properties such as thermal conductivity λR are dependent on the bulk density and the grain density, i.e. on the type of Liapor product that is chosen. A low bulk density and thus a lightweight Liapor product offers better thermal conductivity λR and consequently a higher level of thermal insulation. Thus Liapor 8/16 achieves a thermal conductivity of λR = 0.089 W/(m K), while Liaporfit offers a level of λR = 0.095 W/(m K).
Granules available in many formats
Liapor's spherical dry fill material is delivered in bulk by truck, in 50-liter sacks, in "Big Bags" of 1,000 or 2,500 liters each, or in silo tankers for blow-injection at the building site. Liapor's bulk dry fills are quick and easy to use. Once poured, Liapor is self-compacting and can be evened-off using only a leveling rod. Liapor has many applications: as a drainage fill for foundation work, as a heat-insulating fill in contact with the soil, as a soundproof fill, between wooden beams or for the loose filling of arched structures. When used as a removable overfill for piping or other installations, Liapor can be removed just as quickly as it was applied.
